At Healthy Steps, we are able to offer a customized treatment for each patient and desired area. Using various wavelengths, the laser targets the pigmented hair follicle and destroys it without causing damage to the surrounding skin. Generally, multiple treatments are required to achieve permanent hair reduction due to the hair growth cycle. You can expect to see a gradual decrease in the amount of hair in the treated area after each treatment.
Our lasers treat most skin and hair types. Most people will respond to laser hair removal unless there is pigment absent from the hair, such as white hair, red hair, or “peach fuzz.” During your consultation, our experienced nurse or physician will exam your desired area for hair removal and recommend the best treatment customized for your best results.
After your initial consultation, our staff will give you specific pre- and post-treatment instructions. The area to be treated must be shaved first to ensure a faster treatment with less discomfort. Please shave the morning of or the night before your treatment unless our staff asks you otherwise. We ask that you avoid sun exposure to the area before and after treatment to decrease adverse side effects.
Side effects are usually mild. The skin may appear red -similar to a sunburn- but this subsides within 24-48 hours. On occasion, crusting can develop on the treated area that subsides in a few days. Discomfort can occur and varies from patient to patient and area treated. Over the counter pain medication can be taken to decrease any discomfort.
Discomfort varies from patient to patient, as well as the area being treated. Patients may experience mild pinching of the skin as the laser handpiece moves over the hair. There is generally no lingering pain. There is no downtime. You can return to work or normal activities immediately after the treatment.
